Charity Appeals Coordinator
Colma and Liam O’Luanaigh resigned from the function of charity appeals coordinators in April 2003. Their dedication and valuable work over a period of 5 years was recognised by the Parish Council. The function of charity appeals coordinator has since been taken over by Yvonne Stausboll.

Guidelines for Support to Charities
At its meeting on 8 April 2003 the Parish Council adopted “Guidelines for Support to Charities” (see annex) outlining the selection procedure and criteria for charity appeals as well as identifying a number of charities for which regular annual appeals would be held. Of particular note are the following principles, which were agreed:

1. To maintain one charity collection per month with the following exceptions:

  • Lent, weekly appeals are held

  • There is no collection in July (due to holiday period)

  • Weekly collections for the Good Samaritan Fund are held during August

2. All proposals for charity appeals are submitted to the Parish Council for advance approval.

Financial Situation
Significant delays have taken place in the transfer of funds from the charities account to beneficiaries’ accounts due to numerous difficulties in changing signatories for the charities bank account. However, at the time of writing this report, all payments bar one (to “Familia”) have been made to the beneficiary charities and arrangements are now being finalised, which should ensure timely transfers of funds to the beneficiaries in future.

The charities bank account balance as of 10 October 2003 is : € 4633.78

Of this amount, €2826.68 is the sum total of the “Good Samaritan Fund” which is administered at the discretion of the Parish Priest. The remaining balance of €1807.10 is due to be paid to Familia (Lenten collection) .

ooOoo

Finally, congratulations to St Anthony’s parishioners for the support they have provided to so many needed people, through these regular charity appeals.
