An outstanding event in the spiritual life of the Parish

Kraineem, 9 April 2003

Dear Parishioners,

Since our last Newsletter before last Christmas the outstanding event in the spiritual life of our Parish has undoubtedly been our Alpha Course. For those not yet familiar with Alpha, it began in London's Holy Trinity Parish Church in Brompton about ten years ago. Just as in the early Christian Community, Christians would invite trusted non-Christian friends to a family meal and in the course of friendly conversation these non-Christians could learn all about Christianity, so Alpha invites people to a friendly meal and conversation over a period of about ten sessions, where people can ask awkward questions in a most friendly manner and discuss the basics of Christianity without any pressure on them to make a commitment to Christianity. Alpha was so successful that it is now in over one hundred and thirty countries worldwide and has touched the lives of many millions of people in a most positive manner.

Here in St. Anthony's Parish we had one hundred and two people who sat down for the first dinner and approximately eighty people have kept on coming since. This is remarkable and can only be attributed to the power of prayer. The Holy Spirit is very active in our midst. Praise the Lord.

We look forward to the celebration of First Holy Communion in May and to the celebration of Confirmation at Pentecost. We would like to sincerely thank all the parents who have helped our young parishioners to meet the Lord in these sacraments.

May God continue to bless us all in our wonderful Parish.

Sincerely yours.

Vincent Gallogley O.F.M., Pastor
