Over 20,000 Euro collected for charities
Kraineem (15 August 2004)
Our parishioners continue to provide much
needed and most generous support to various charities, through our
monthly charity appeals. So far this year, a total of EURO 20,046.32 has
been raised in the monthly appeals. This is a fantastic effort.
The charities which St Anthony’s supports are small organisations with
very low running costs and largely run by volunteers. This means that
the money we are able to raise not only makes a real contribution, but
is used directly for the cause, rather than absorbed in running costs
and administration. Full details of the results of the collections are
available on the charity noticeboard in the Parish Centre.
In addition to the monthly appeals, we should mention some other fund
raising efforts organised by our parishioners, that the Parish has
supported. Jessie Lewis ran a very successful cookery demonstration in
February, raising over 400 EURO in aid of the Little Sisters of the
Poor. By all accounts this was a most enjoyable evening, at which
participants could not only witness a cookery demonstration, but also
taste its fruits, with a three course meal at the end of the evening. By
popular demand, Jessie has agreed to run another cookery demonstration
in October – more information to follow in WORDS.
Parishioners also responded to appeals for bedding in aid of the St
Gilles charity helping the poor of Brussels (organised by Susan Jacobs)
and for stationery items which Helga Marcar took to a small rural school
in Kenya at Easter time. Many thanks to all who contributed.
If any parishioner is involved with a charitable organisation and would
like to request support from St Anthony’s in the form of an appeal at
Mass, please submit your request to the Parish Council through Yvonne
Stausbøll (charities coordinator) who can be reached on 02/6460536 or
stausboll@skynet.be. The Parish Council has adopted “Guidelines for
support to charities”, which may be made available on request. (Please
contact Yvonne).
