350 Club - Could you use an extra €2,000?

Kraineem (24 February 2005)

By Barry O’Halpin

I could and I suspect that any of us would love to have that arrive in our laps.

That is what is on offer over the next five weeks. Starting this weekend, February 19th and 20th, tickets will go on sale outside the church after all masses to help raise vital funds for essential infrastructural improvements in the Parish. As Liam Breslin, Chair of the Finance Council, has mentioned in his piece inside looking at the financial status of the parish, we are faced with the need to upgrade the waste and drain systems. This is a legal obligation and it is hoped to have the work completed before the Summer Fayre which takes place this year on June 12th.

This kind of work does not come cheap so to raise the necessary funds the Pastoral Council and the Finance Council have organized a prize draw, limited to 350 tickets. The prize fund will be €8,000 and will be dispersed over three weeks with the first draw on March 6th after the 10.00 mass in the Parish Hall. For the draws of March 6th and 13th, the prizes will be €1250, €650 and €300. The final draw, on Palm Sunday March 20th will be for prizes of €2000, €1,000 and €600!! This is not to be sneezed at.

Remember, there are only 350 tickets available and all the proceeds, after prizes have been paid, will go to meeting our obligation to upgrade our drains. The tickets will cost €75 and can be paid for in cash or by virement, which many people may find more convenient than having to have the cash to hand. The sellers will be outside the church after all masses from February 19th to March 20th so you won’t have any problem finding them. If you would like to volunteer to help with the sale of tickets, contact me, Barry O’Halpin, on 0472/960 506. We would really appreciate any and all help that you can give.

Finally, just a word to put this in context. More than a decade ago, the parish was also faced with an enormous challenge, the building of the extension to the church. At that time, a 250 Club was organized and we were turning people away at the end. The generosity of the parishioners at that time, and indeed always, has been remarkable. We have no doubt that this time around, it will be equally spectacular. Drains may not be glamourous like an extension to the church but they do help to clear away the … well you know what I mean.

So don’t be shy. A limited number of tickets, nine chances to win and all in time for the Easter holidays. That can’t be bad.

On behalf of the Councils and the priests, and indeed of the parish as a whole, thank you in advance for your generosity. Someone will win €2,000 – it could be you!
