Confirmations 2005: 28 new Christian adults

Kraineem (19 May 2005)

By Michael Quillinan

On this Pentecost weekend, 38 candidates will present themselves to be confirmed at ceremonies during the evening Mass on Saturday 14 May and at morning Mass on Sunday 15 May.

Preparation started last October 9 and the class met on five Saturdays at St Anthony’s, concluding on April 23. The teaching team were Helen Smith, Karen Ward, Emer Daly, Susan McEneaney, Tracy Bentley, Martin Whelan and Michael Quillinan, who were ably guided throughout by Fr. Vincent and Fr. John. The Course aims to give the candidates a better understanding of their Catholic faith through knowing Jesus in the Gospels and through applying the principles of their faith to situations in daily life. Particular emphasis is given to the work of the Holy Spirit in the church and preparing the candidates to be open to receiving the gifts of the Spirit through the sacrament of confirmation.

Another important aspect is the promotion of charitable action and the candidates chose to raise funds through a charity lunch at St Anthony’s on December 4 and through the sale of poinsettias and greeting cards before Christmas. This proved to be a great success raising a total of EUR 800, which was presented directly to a children’s hospital in Romania.

So, as these young people choose to take responsibility for their own religious lives this Pentecost, please support them in your prayers so that they may receive the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit in abundance.
