Farewell to the Martins and Ashbournes

Kraineem (19 May 2005)

By Susanne Lehne

The time has come to say goodbye to two families who have both contributed to the life of our parish in numerous ways. Judith and Steve Martin have decided to move their life centre to Basel, where Steve has been working for some months. Both at the parish council, which Judith chaired for two years, and in the music ministry at the 9.15 mass and on many high feast days, as well as in organising and providing technical expertise in running Alpha courses in our parish, they served our community over a long period.

The Ashbournes are moving to Lausanne this summer. It would be impossible to do justice to the many ways in which Peter and Francoise and their daughters, Claire and Ellen, have shared their time and talents, their faith and tireless energy with so many in our parish community on countless occasions. As Greg Kaufmann aptly put it, we owe to them a heightened awareness and deepening of our commitment to lay ministry, which stems from the shared experience in small groups of faith renewal, such as the Alpha and the Promise courses, as well as the weekly ongoing prayer and faith encounter in the G.I.F.T. evenings.

We pray that the Martins and Ashbournes will find new communities where they will be welcomed and we owe it to them to continue along the journey we travelled together through our shared faith in Christ.
