The promise is being kept!
Kraineem (19 May 2005)
By Chris Guichot de Fortis
As I write (19th May), the Parish course on 'Life in the Holy Spirit' is approaching its culmination, with a mini 1.5 day retreat of prayer, discussion and joyful companionship. We will be continuing our reflection upon the real sense of our lives as Christians having inherited the promises of Christ, and the work of the Spirit in those lives.
Our first four evenings ( video themes: 'The Certainty of God's Love', 'Freedom in Jesus', 'The Power of the Holy Spirit' and 'The Spiritual gifts') have proved to be inspiring and moving times for the 30-odd course participants from Saint Anthony's. Questions have been asked, guidance sought, prayer raised up, fellowship deepened and enjoyed, hymns of praise sung with joy and gusto, and of course tasty meals consumed with fervour...
Fathers Vincent and John will remain with us for the weekend away, during which time we shall be viewing and discussing the two concluding videos, entitled 'Fullness of Life' and 'Empowered to Serve'. The group will experience, in heart and mind and soul, the truth that Jesus left us a Comforter so that we might truly have life in more abundance.
I have found 'This Promise is for You' a precious way of taking time to deepen and experience my faith, and to learn and feel how inexpressibly fortunate we are to be able to drink from the well of the Holy Spirit - Comforter, Paraclete, Flame, Wellspring and awesome Breath of God.
Now we are to be sent out, each with his or her unique and astonishing gifts, to be Christians with every breath we draw and every step we take.
Other similar courses will without doubt be offered (if parishioners want them!) in future years, albeit without the selfless, prayerful and devoted inspiration of Peter and Françoise Ashbourne, to whom we owe a debt, and whom we shall truly miss...."
