« Living the Faith » a series of evenings to build our faith, together….

By Chris De Fortis

Kraainem (04 September 2005).- Following the inspiring success of past programmes organised at Saint Anthony’s with a view to deepening both our faith and our understanding of what being a Christian entails in today’s world, this Autumn will see the launching of “Living the Faith”.

A group of parishioners are planning a series of 4 evenings and one ‘day away’, which will be structured as follows:
- a shared meal (in time-honoured and much-appreciated tradition)
- a 30 to 40 minute talk by a member of the parish
- general and/or small-group discussions on the evening’s topic

The evenings will take place, on Wednesdays from 19H to 22H, on 12th October, 19th October, 26th October and 9th November, and the series will be rounded off by a day’s session (away from the parish) on Saturday 19th November.

The topics chosen, on the premise that ‘Christ wants followers, not admirers’, are the following:
- ‘Living our Faith’ – the day-to-day expression of Faith
- ‘Believing and serving’ – feeding the sheep
- ‘Our inheritance’ – the gift and jewel that is the Church
- ‘Sacred scripture’ – authentically interpreting the Word
- ‘Teach us how to pray’ – the secret of our courage to serve

All parishioners are warmly invited to attend one, two or all of the evenings, although these are intended to mesh into a vaguely structured whole, and it would probably be most rewarding to set aside all five dates if that can be done.

The idea is for these sessions to be as participatory as possible, and there will be no ‘experts’ talking at you, simply fellow Christians struggling towards ‘the imitation of Christ’. Their particular experience in certain fields of activity should help to fuel discussion and cast fruitful and inspirational light upon our attempts to make our faith count, in our hearts in the world around us.

The goal is to enrich the spiritual life of our Parish community in thought and word and deed, and in so doing to grow together, with each participant (that means you!) adding his or her particular gifts on the road to Emmaus. With the help of you all and in the love of Christ, let’s come together so that our spoken words may become a more perfect union with the Living Word….

Further details of these evening events will be provided in ‘Words’ and by flyer and poster a little nearer the time, and the ‘Living the Faith’ team (headed by Barry O’Halpin) will be around during this year’s ‘Meet and Greet’ after the Summer break.
