New St Anthony’s Youth Group
By Dorothy Boyer
Kraainem (04 September 2005).-
Recently, St. Anthony’s has started a new group for young people aged 13-19. Prior to the youth group, there were no centralized activities focused on our young people. The aim of the new youth group is to help teens explore and develop their faith more fully. Our teens are the future leaders and it is important that they develop a strong foundation in Christ so that as they grow into adults they will continue to stay active in the church.
Over one third of the teens at St. Anthony’s parish are new to the parish each year due to the transient nature of the Brussels area. Many of these teens are moving abroad for the first time and have difficulties making new friends in the beginning. The new youth group is designed to help teens of the various English speaking international schools get to know one another and foster deep and lasting friendships. A key part of the youth group is to celebrate our faith in God by having fun with one another. Some of the fun activities this year will include playing paint ball, going to the movies, playing games, eating out, or just hanging out together.
A key element of the youth group is also about character development. The group will have regular sessions that focus on real live teen issues, and then as a group the teens will come up with
Christ-centered solutions to those issues. In addition to character development, the youth group will also focus on service projects to help our teens assist those less fortunate in our community and world at large. Teens will also have an opportunity to sign up for various missionary activities held in other countries to more fully develop their faith in Christ.
All teens are welcome to join our Youth Group. In addition, we are still in need of volunteers to support our new Youth Group. For more information, please contact
