How to live our Faith
together
By Barry O'Halpin
Kraainem (04
December 2005).-
During the past few weeks a group of about 25 parishioners attended four evening gatherings to share meals, pray, sing and talk together as part of our Living our Faith Together series. The series will conclude on Saturday, November 19. A talk and discussion on “The Power of Prayer” will begin a day of individual and shared prayer, reflection and contemplation and sung praise.
Some time ago, I read these lines written by Henri Le Saux, a French monk who lived in India for the last 25 years of his life:
“We do not first think of the air around us and then draw breath: we breathe in order to remain alive. So it is with the divine Presence which is still more essential to our life and to our very being than is the air to our bodies.”
Being constantly attentive to God’s call and His almighty presence in our daily lives; breathing it in without having to think about it seemed a rather daunting proposition. . Thankfully, there are always people in our midst who can help us see that by living our faith, all things are possible with God.
The unique aspect of the Living Our Faith sessions was that they were presented and led by members of our own community, willingly sharing their knowledge and experiences in their personal journeys in faith. A different aspect of faith was discussed at each session. These were:
Gentle Evangelisation - the daily expression of our faith at home, at work or with friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances;
Feed My Sheep – serving others in spiritual as well as practical ways;
The Church – our precious inheritance as members of the one Body of Christ;
Sacred Scripture – the gift of the Word and how we hear, understand and live it in today’s world.
From each session, I can clearly recall a word, a phrase or an image that was very important to me on that particular evening, and that have helped me to understand Henri Le Saux’s message – a simple reminder to be attentive and alive to Him always. As each of our speakers noted: living our faith together helps us grow together in the love of God.
Each talk was recorded. If any parishioner would like to hear them or would like more information on Living our Faith Together or Growing in Faith Together, please contact Chris de Fortis or Barry O
Halpin.
