Your Parish Really Does Need You

by Judith Carr, Parish Council

Kraainem (19 August 2006).- On behalf of the Parish Pastoral Council, I would like to welcome all Parishioners, old and new, to St Anthony’s. Our Parish is the largest English speaking parish in the Brussels-Mechelen diocese but we have parishioners from all over the world attending our three weekend Masses here in our beautiful Church. This is a vibrant, active and exciting Parish to be in because we are so diverse and there are many opportunities for the whole family to become involved in our Parish life.

The theme of this year’s Meet ‘n’ Greet is service. Our spiritual needs are ably met by our priests, Fr. Vincent and Fr. John and our secretariat deals with much of the administration but everything else in the Parish is run by volunteers – and that means YOU! God has given us all many talents, some of which we use. However, many lie dormant and others we never knew we had until asked to do something. We have four Commissions in our Constitution: Education, Worship and Evangelisation, Christian Service and Parish Life and all of these need your help to continue to run smoothly. From the choirs, altar servers and Catechetics, to being a lector, Eucharistic Minister or usher and especially to helping at our annual Fayre in June – people are needed. We are not looking for qualifications, just enthusiasm and a little bit of your time. The more people who volunteer, the less often you will be needed.

So please come and see us at the Meet ‘n’ Greet on September 24 or attend a Parish Council meeting (open to all and AGM on October 10) and give a little bit back. As Mother Teresa said “We can do no great things, only little things with great love. You can do what I can’t do. I can do what you can’t do. Together we can do something beautiful for God”.
