10th of June: Summer Fayre 2007 is approaching...

By Yvonne Nielsen, Chair of the Fayre Committee

Kraainem (31 March 2006).- This year St Anthony’s Summer Fayre will be held on Sunday, the 10th of June, starting at 13.00hours and ending at dusk. In keeping with tradition, it is as always held on the Sunday nearest to the feast day of St Anthony. The Fayre for those of you who are new to the parish is the major fund raising event of the year for us. The money raised from the Fayre normally goes towards our first mortgage payment of the year.

The Fayre marks the arrival of Summer with the promise of long hot days and holidays to come. It really is a very special day with fun to be had by all the family. There are food and drink stalls offering many delights from a taste of Africa to Barbeques to Smoked Salmon something to tickle most taste buds. All washed down with Strawberry Teas, Irish coffee or drinks from the bar.

There are stalls to browse through from the Books Stall to the Clothes Stall to the Bric a Brac Stall to the Plant and Flower Stall or even the Bottle Stall where one can try ones luck. You may win a bottle of Shampoo or a bottle of Single Malt. More importantly there are games, facing painting and a bouncy castle to entertain the children. While the adults and the young can enjoy watching the free entertainment provided on stage; Singers, Choirs and Dancers and this year Mr John and Dr Robb are back! On top of this we even have our own special Fashion Show. It really is a truly wonderful day for fostering community spirit both within our own parish and outside.

As you can see there is a lot happening on the day of the Fayre and as you would expect help is needed to ensure the day goes well. The Fayre Committee is already working hard to ensure the Fayre’s success. However, as with every year we need your support. We need volunteers to help with the stalls and other activities. You may only be able to spare an hour but it is amazing how important that hour can be on the day. So please fill in the Fayre Leaflet which you can pick up at church and contact us. We are always delighted to hear from volunteers.

Over the next few weeks we will be starting to distribute Tombola Tickets. The Fayre Tombola is an essential component of the Fayre. If we have bad weather, the money raised from the Tombola helps to deffray any cost we have incurred in setting up the Fayre.

This year we would be very grateful if possible for people to pick up their Tombola Tickets from the tables outside church as this reduces our postal costs. The plan is to distribute the tickets to the majority of Parishioners, the last 2 weekends of April. There is no need to buy the tickets on the day of collection but to take them home and sell to friends and family. When you have sold what you can then return the Tombola Ticket Stubs plus any unsold tickets and money in a sealed envelop which you can then place in the collection basket clearly marked Fayre Tombola. This year we have some very special prizes to be won - a Philips portable LCD Flat screen TV, a portable DVD player for the car, Annual family passes to Antwerp Zoo/Plankendal and Technopolis, to weekend breaks away and many more terrific prizes in between.

As every year we would be delighted to receive any donations of Tombola Prizes. It has become increasingly difficult to obtain donations of Tombola Prizes from companies. If you know of any companies who would be willing to sponsor a prize we would be delighted to hear from them.

Donations for Stalls
We also start collecting donations for our various stalls from Thursday, the 3rd of May.
Bric a brac can be placed in Garage Number 2. Please donate items which are in good order and not broken. We are unable to accept any furniture or any sharp kitchen items.
Clothes can be placed in the Conference Room in the Parish Centre. Clean and in good order please.
Books can be placed in the New Classroom in the Grounds.
Bottles for the Bottle Stall can be collected after the weekend Masses. Please ensure that the bottles are in date and the seal is unbroken
But please call the Parish Office before delivering you donations if possible, to ensure that the various collection points are open, thank you
All that remains for me to do is to thank you all for continuing to support the Fayre. We look forward to seeing you there.
Please email yvonnenielsen@tiscali.be if you would be willing to help in anyway for the Fayre...
