Over 30,000 raised or charities in 2007
By Yvonne Stausboll, Charities coordinator
Kraainem
(13 December 2007).-
2007 has been another amazing year with regards to your generosity towards the various charity appeals that were held. Over 30,000 Euro has been raised for charities stretching across the continents of Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.
In addition, the Parish held another successful Christmas charity sale on 2 December, at which 12 different charities participated, selling Christmas cards, gift items and refreshments, with all proceeds going to the needy. Thanks to all those who braved the horrendous weather to support this event. You helped to raise over Euro 3,000 for the needy both at home and abroad.
At its meeting in November, the Parish Council discussed the various requests for appeals that had been submitted by different charities. In its selection, an effort has been made to include charities that have not been supported in the past, and in areas that have previously been underrepresented, as well as some local charities, both in the Flemish and French speaking regions of Belgium. The appeals are generally held on the first weekend of each month, as well as weekly during Lent. Dates sometimes differ, in particular to avoid holiday periods. The first appeal in 2008 will be held on the weekend of 12/13 January, and will be to support a project for a youth centre in Uganda, in which our parishioner Helga Marcar is personally involved.
Charity never humiliated him who profited from it, nor ever bound him by the chains of gratitude, since it was not to him but to God that the gift was made.”
Antoine de Saint Exupery
