A letter from Zimbabwe
By Ellitah Bere
Harare (13 December 2007).- To the congregation of St Anthony’s Church and all who responded to the Lent Appeal
Thanks to the very generous response to Ellitah Bere’s Lent appeal on behalf of the suffering people of Zimbabwe, EURO 3507.26 was received into our account on 16th April 2007.
We were very touched by the scale of your goodwill and support. This is the first opportunity we have had to show you photographs of some of the people your kindness has helped.
We have administered your gifts as follows: 750 euros spent to help a group of displaced children living in Zimbabwe (27/04/07) ; 750 euros spent to help a group of displaced Zimbabwean children living in South Africa (27/04/07); 500 euros spent to help four old ladies, grandmothers caring for their orphaned grandchildren and without means of support (06/07/07); 507,26 euros placed in the bank account of the
a.s.b.l. ZHC (Zimbabwean Humanitarian Crisis) Helping Hands as a ‘rainy day’ fund to be spent should there come an urgent appeal from our project in Zimbabwe;
1000 euros held on account in anticipation of expenditure on cholera tablets (these are available in Zimbabwe).
One of the photos shows the sewage which has seeped from a broken pipe. An outbreak of cholera has been reported. The situation in Zimbabwe is difficult, and we are waiting for the right opportunity to send this money so as to ensure it reaches the people for whom it is intended.
Thank you once again for your generosity.
