MINUTES OF THE PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL HELD ON 8 JUNE 2004
Present:
Fr. Vincent Gallogley, Fr. John Kealy, Judith Carr, Paddy McEneaney, Yvonne
Nielsen, Walter Huyghe, Susanne Lehne, Johny Van Der Bracht and Jeff
Thomson.
Apologies:
Pat Farrington, Horst Dengler, Brigid Alty and Lindy Martin.
The meeting opened at 19.50 hrs and Fr. Vincent said the opening prayer.
There were no matters arising from the May minutes so they were approved.
Fayre:
Volunteers are still needed especially for the bric–a-brac stall. Paddy has
bought the electrical prizes and the trip to Prague has been paid for.
Sponge cakes are needed for the Strawberry Teas. Ticket stub returns are a
bit behind as those not collected were mailed out a week later than usual.
Yvonne would like to purchase a new hot water only urn and will try Macro.
ACTION: Yvonne.
Maintenance:
The electrics are not completely finished; the electrician will be coming
soon but not before the Fayre.
The sandpit will cost €200 to fill with soil; grass will be extra.
The treecutter is ready to remove several trees, including a chestnut that
will need to be replaced.
Sheds: Peter de Vries has contacted Johny and he is ready to begin work on
21 June. However, he needs to contact Fr. Vincent and Fr. John to see what
is really needed. Fr. Vincent will give him a very detailed list! The sheds
will need to be completely emptied after the Fayre and there will be a large
skip available. Johny will put a note in Words asking for help & will also
ask the people who are clearing up this weekend. ACTION: Johny.
The chain across the entrance will be put up after the Fayre.
It was proposed to ask Xavier to clean the patio and the furniture every
Friday and to see if he could do something about the wobbly slab near the
door.
Franciscan Situation:
The Provincial and the Vicar-Provincial will now not be coming on June 16
but Fr. Vincent and Fr. John are going to Ireland for a big meeting.
Education and Evangelisation:
The 2 Confirmation ceremonies went very well. The bishop would like to come
back again next year but if he is unable to, he will find a replacement for
us.
Registration Sunday will be 12 September and lessons will begin on September
26. Car-free day is 19 September. Poster with the date of Registration
should be put up from the beginning of July (ACTION: Brian) and the
information should go into the Happenings column of the Bulletin during
August & the beginning of September (ACTION: Barry and Angela/Suzanne). All
this should also be put on the website. ACTION: Ferran.
Music: 10.00 Mass has a desperate need for musicians. Paddy will put a note
in Words asking for volunteers. ACTION: Paddy.
There will be a meal for the Catechetics team on June 19 after 18.00 Mass.
Christian Service:
The last 2 collections have been exceedingly generous. The Confirmation
class raised just over €2700 for their charity in Czernovicz and this week’s
collection for our twin parish was over €1800 (Yvonne will give me a final
figure soon).
Worship:
From Sunday 11 July to Sunday 5 September there will be no 10.00 Mass. The
10.00 Mass will begin again on 12 September, which is Registration day.
During those dates, Masses will be held at 18.00 on Saturday evening and
11.30 on Sunday; there will also be 19.15 in Rue le Corrège. A permanent
notice is to be placed in the Hall, the Church and in the outdoor notice
board.
ACTION: Angela.
Fr. Vincent will send an email of congratulations to Holy Trinity on the
opening of their newly refurbished church. ACTION: Fr. Vincent.
Paddy raised the point that many new EU members do not have their own Church
but have English as their second language so are potentially new
parishioners. He suggested that Angela/ Suzanne put a note of welcome into
the Happenings column. ACTION: Angela/Suzanne.
Susanne is very interested in arranging the children’s liturgy next year.
She would be willing to do this once a month with a helper and it was
suggested that Brian could ask at the Catechetics meal if there were any
parents willing to help with this. ACTION: Brian.
Fr. John suggested that it would be nice to have screens on either side of
the altar to project the words of hymns or responses. Paddy will talk to the
man who is doing the acoustics. ACTION: Paddy.
The weekend at La Foresta went very well and the atmosphere was very
special. Over 25 people attended and there was time for the sacrament of
reconciliation. Françoise says the group will keep meeting until the end of
June.
Prayers of the Faithful: the list was getting to be very long and an
improvement needed to be made. All requests for prayers for the sick will be
read out for one week and then the names will be put in a book that will be
kept at the back of the Church and the book will be referred to during Mass.
The book could even be brought up at the Offertory as we do in November.
Susanne offered to find a nice book. ACTION: Susanne. If people wish to
request prayers or would like more than one week e.g. not a long-term
illness, they can contact the office. Parishioners should be made aware that
they can write their own intentions in this book.
Fr. John will order some large hosts (25 per month) from the Poor Clares in
Leuven. ACTION: Fr. John.
Parish Life:
The Meet ‘n’ Greet will be held on 12 September (Registration Day). It will
start at the end of the 10.00 Mass and end c. 14.30. One Mass will be
outdoors, subject to the weather. Lindy can check the organisation of the
day with the Knights. ACTION: Lindy.
Paddy will contact Ferran to find out how the website is coming along and
how he is progressing with the name.
Suzanne’s Helping Hands list is up and ready to run.
AOB:
None.
Fr. John said the closing prayer and the meeting ended at 21.10 hrs.
The next meeting will be on June 22 at 19.30
