Present:

Fr. Vincent Gallogley, Fr. John Kealy, Barry O’Halpin, Judith Carr, Paddy McEneaney, Yvonne Stausbøll, Mark Price, Susanne Lehne, Walter Huyghe, Yvonne Nielsen, Lindy Martin, Brigid Alty and Horst Dengler.

Apologies:

Brian O’Neill, Liam Breslin and Johny Van Der Bracht.

The meeting began at 19.40 hrs and Susanne said the opening prayer.

There were no matters arising from the April Minutes so they were approved.

Future Planning Group:

Yvonne went thoroughly through the report from the Future Planning Group, which everyone should have received from Liam or Barry.
She has collected quite a lot of documentation with regards to the position of parish assistant/director, from a variety of sources, so we can see what the job actually entails.
Yvonne thanked everyone who took part in this group for all their hard work; Barry thanked Yvonne for leading the group and Liam for his clarity.

All the bullet points in the short-term matters need to be addressed as soon as possible. Key people need to be identified so that they can report back to the next Council meeting to see how things have progressed. All the heads of Commissions should be reporting back to every meeting anyway so this is a good opportunity to make sure it happens.
Fr Vincent will lead the training of sacristans on May 21 at 16.00hrs to ensure that they understand the significance of what they are doing and to make sure everything is done correctly. Oneil D’Sa will be in charge of the sacristans and their rota. Paddy will see Philip McMurray this weekend to see if he is available to video this training session for future reference; a photo record should also be available for all sacristans.
Brigid will write a short article for the Newsletter about her experiences as an RCIA instructor.
The calling/visiting times for the priests will be put into Words and the Newsletter.
Melanie and Oneil D’Sa have expressed an interest in running the Youth Group for the teenagers in our Parish.
Fr. Vincent raised the matter of the World Youth Conference that is being held in Cologne on 15 – 20 August. It would be nice if a group from our Parish could attend and there is the possibility of some financial help. Paddy will speak to Michael Quillanan(please help with spelling) to see if he could raise some interest.
Barry also mentioned the idea of youth exchanges with other Parishes.

Catechetics/Worship and Evangelisation:

Brian sent the following report:
“Sunday school concluded early this year on April 17 due to an early Easter. Since the last Pastoral Council meeting, we have had the Covenant Players again.
Fr. Vincent kindly arranged for a baptism to take place during the Children’s Mass.
First Communion ceremonies and receptions went according to plan more or less and we were blessed with very good weather as usual. All those involved must be congratulated for the great effort they put in. A number of visitors to the Parish told me they were very impressed by the ceremony.
The year is now coming to a close. Confirmations will take place this weekend.
There will be a meeting of all involved and anyone else interested to review the year on June 5 starting at 9.00 in the new classroom. Among issues I hope to bring up are the use of the Parish web site by teachers and/or children, children’s choir for the family Mass and further involvement of parents in the life of the Parish. Agendas will be circulated beforehand to all involved.”
Susanne added that there had also been the baptism of 2 older children, Alex and Sara Mochnacz.
The Liturgy of the Word for children has finished for this year but Susanne would like to continue next year, sharing with Fiona Murray, who attended a training workshop on this area.
There is one more session of The Promise this week and then there is the retreat on May 21. It was nice to see new people attending this course.
David Wells is not available this autumn but has been booked for November 2006.
The Parish Council would like to send its thanks to Greg and Kendra for all their work in the Parish and also to Peter and Françoise Ashbourne, Judy and Steve Martin and Bernard Ela and his family. All of these will be leaving Brussels in the summer.

Parish Life:

The 350 club has received an additional €300 to give a total of €11700.
Fayre: 250 envelopes of tickets have been taken after Masses but that still leaves 350, which will have to be posted. An extra 70 people have taken tickets, some of whom have been registered but whose names have not appeared on the label run. This problem will be looked into.
Volunteers are still needed to help run the Fayre plus donations of bottles, books, clothes and bric-a-brac (no furniture) are needed. On the day after the Fayre, St. Gilles have been invited to turn up at 10.00 to go through the bric-a-brac to take anything they require. Anything left will be binned.

A.O.B.:

Paddy suggested that, during May, it would be nice to decorate the outside altar and he will talk to Catherine Sternemann about this. Fr. John suggested that it might be nice to have a flowerbed right the way round the altar. Weather permitting, there will be an outdoor Mass on May 22.
The priest in Sterrebeek has contacted our folk group to join their choir in a concert at Christmas (Thursday 15 Dec). A meeting is being held this Thursday to discuss ideas.
The new cross has been erected this evening and Fr. Vincent is hoping that the bishop will bless it immediately after Sunday’s Confirmation Mass.
Thanks were given to Paddy, the folk group and everyone involved with the Daybreak production.
The Quiz Night will be held on Friday 3 June.

Mark said the closing prayer and the meeting ended at 21.25 hrs.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 7 June at 19.30 hrs.
