The meeting opened at 20.00 and Melanie said the opening prayer.
Matters Arising from the November Minutes:
Fr. Vincent pointed out that our Parish finds it difficult to attend events at the Cathedral; there were only 3 people there from St Anthony’s at the opening of the crèches. It raised the issue of how can we be more supportive of diocesan requests?
Barry thanked Walter for getting our crib to the Cathedral.
The Minutes were approved.
Veillée de Prières November 2006:
This is taking place in Brussels in 11 months time and it was decided that we need to find people in our Parish who are good at getting information about events such as this out to our parishioners. We also need to focus on specific activities e.g. providing a choir for the Cathedral at the beginning of December. Dan said he would look into this. ACTION: Dan.
Fr. John suggested that we have a Commission for Integration with the Diocese.
Brigid and Susanne will need help for the World Day of Prayer which is taking place in January.
Future Development of Infrastructure:
Car parking: the tennis courts and the piece of land on the left as you exit are to be developed into additional car parking and some parts of the existing car park will be resurfaced. Funding for two thirds of this has been found.
Liam requested that everyone thinks about how we see the development of the Parish in the short term i.e. the next 2 years and long term, the next ten years. What would people like to see, how would we fund raise and would it need planning permission. A major project in the next ten years could be the reworking of the Parish Centre: a hall with meeting rooms above.
Another idea was working in conjunction with the Gemeente in building a meeting room on the Nuns land which we would use on Friday evenings and at the weekends.
It was decided to have an open meeting at the end of January to discuss the future development of the Parish. A blank sheet for ideas could be inserted into Words and placed into the collection baskets before the meeting takes place.
Maintenance:
The gravel path leading to the Church needs a new top level.
A new covering will be placed on the area where the sewage works took place once everything has settled down.
Damage caused by tyres on the grass: this is covered by the insurance of the “culprits” but the drains underneath must be checked for damage. Johny said he’d get quotes. It was also suggested that the area be allowed to dry out and then reseeded in spring. We will put in a small claim to cover the man hours need to do the work.
Sewage: the smell that appeared has almost gone. The pump has been working despite the flashing red light! The work with De Vries has been signed off and the paper work should be returned soon. We have a 10 year guarantee on all the work: parts and labour.
Fencing: there is to be 42 m between us and our neighbours, at a cost of c. €1800 without TVA. Johny will ask them if they’d like to share half the costs but we will go ahead anyway.
Gates: with video, remote control & parlaphone plus keys for people when the priests are away. The first estimate is €3763 plus TVA but others are awaited. It is possible to put the second gate on the infra red command system.
No entry signs are needed on the exit gates.
The alarm system is to be extended and someone is coming to have a look next week/beginning of January; they will check to ensure the alarm system is functioning properly.
Youth Group:
It is going well but the December 2 event was cancelled. Dorothy still wants help but has not received any so far. It needs to be put bluntly to the Parish that if it does not receive any support, it will collapse. The Finance Council has given €1500 as requested.
Mark will prepare a piece for the lectors to read out at Mass.
ACTION: Mark.
Lenten Charities:
Yvonne gave out a list of previously supported charities in preparation for a discussion in January.
African Enterprise: this is a charity which helps Africans to help themselves. The chair in Belgium is Nigel Walker and he and Lynne Badcock will come to explain the charity to us, probably on March 11/12.
Cookery Book:
Our target time is the Parish Fayre. Mark will make enquiries about prices and publishing. ACTION: Mark. We will start asking for recipes in January.
A.O.B.:
We need another hymn numbers display board on the left side of the altar.
A spotlight is needed for the guitarist/violinist.
1 or 2 music stands are required for the Church.
Johny will redo the light bulbs in Church before Christmas.
An Alpha course is being organised between 5 Parishes: St. Anthony’s,
St. Paul’s, Holy Trinity, All Saints and Our Lady of Mercy. There is a request that it is based at St. Anthony’s and some of the others would be able to put funds into a kitty to run this. More details will follow.
Dan said the closing prayer and the meeting ended at 22.00 hrs.
